A Brief Introduction to xOrganizer v3 for X-Aeroplane 12
By Sean McLeod
Hello and welcome to my brief introduction to xOrganizer v3 for X-Plane 12, an extremely helpful application created by XP dot Org member MH1212 of 4xplane.nl
I hadn't used xOrganizer v3 myself until quite recently as it's compiled to use on Windows operating systems, but you can use it on MacOS which is explained in the detailed instructions provided with the program.
Before I begin, I must give an honourable mention to XP dot Org fellow member Aussi (creator of the OpenSceneryX project) for creating the XAddonManager. I've used it for a while as it's compiled for Windows, Mac and Linux. It's expert in a compression and the price is free, but if you're serious about managing your collection of X-Airplane add together-ons then xOrganizer v3 for X-Plane 12 is well worth your investment of both money and time.
And so, what does xOrganizer do, you lot might inquire? Well, hither's a brief description taken from the manual:
Quote
xOrganizer helps you manage your Scenery, Plugins/scripts, X-Airplane preferences and Shipping
xOrganizer does this by helping you for instance with: - Maintaining the right scenery order (scenery_packs.ini) - Overviews, peculiarly if you take collected a lot of stuff - Preventing conflicts between scenery packages and betwixt plugins/scripts - Setting up Ten-Plane for a specific type of flight: different scenery and plugins/scripts, simply also different X-Plane preferences (for instance for VR) - Reducing Ten-Plane load times - Increment 10-Airplane functioning past disabling content - Limit the number of loaded (groundtraffic) plugins: X-Aeroplane tin but handle a sure amount of plugins.
xOrganizer offers treeviews, tables and maps for ameliorate overview.
One of the more than difficult tasks in managing your X-Plane installation is keeping the correct order for your scenery. X-Airplane is very flexible with its scenery. With regard to ordering, there are no strict rules and authors can mix and proper name stuff as they like. This offers a lot of room for creativity, but the downside is that it as well makes managing scenery complex.
xOrganizer uses several unlike methods to automatically determine the blazon of scenery and its identify in the order equally much as possible, mainly by reading the contents and pattern recognition. All the same, you lot should always bank check if the results comply with the instructions of the writer, especially for scenery packages with multiple subfolders.
Please note that xOrganizer is made so that transmission adjustments to the society are easy to do. Y'all can simply elevate and drop packages, but the context carte (right-click on a package) also offers lots of options.
Extra functions for Scenery:
- Automatically sorted per continent/state
- Select scenery packages with the help of map tiles or flight plan
- Check for missing or outdated libraries - View the coverage of your scenery on a map
- View airports included in the packages (also on the map) and find duplicate/conflicting airports
- View extra features included in the packages (Seasons, SAM, AutoGate and GroundTraffic)
- Enable/disable GroundTraffic plugins
Actress functions for Profiles:
- User profiles for scenery, plugins/scripts, X-Plane preferences and aircraft
- Kickoff X-Plane with a shortcut using preselected xOrganizer profiles
Extra functions for General:
- Cheque for bad shortcuts, symlinks and junctions (not detected by X-Plane)
- Keep track of versions and download locations of your scenery packages, plugins/scripts
- Consign to a spreadsheet
- Automatic and manual scaling for big displays + dark skins
This latest release, version three, is brand new, and for use exclusively on X-Aeroplane 12. The earlier version, 2.41, is what you need when using X-Plane eleven.
I've institute getting started with the program to be extremely straightforward. Once purchased, it'southward a uncomplicated chore of downloading the zip archive and then expanding it to anywhere except your Program Files or Windows folders, every bit mentioned in the PDF installation instructions.
The start time you run xOrganizer, it will accept longer than expected as it scans your Ten-Plane folders for aircraft, scenery, and plugins/scripts. Afterward the first run, whenever you open the programme, information technology runs a scan of your Ten-Plane installation and adds whatever updates found in the file construction.
A favourite feature of mine is seeing the Aircraft library information and the different options for sorting the shipping collection.
At this early stage of testing, I accept to say that one of the features I relish the nigh, is the ability to see a graphical brandish of my installed X-Airplane scenery on a global map, along with the ability to zoom in on locations.
I could really fall down the rabbit hole and plow this into a consummate review, but I really shouldn't at this point as I've merely just scratched the surface of the program's capabilities. In other words, I don't want to be bullheaded, leading the bullheaded!
The ability to create profiles for direction of all the content appears to me to be quite powerful, allowing you to tailor your X-Plane installation for any specific needs and applications. I have however to explore this feature. According to the user manual, you can create quick-start launch shortcuts direct on your desktop which is a phenomenal feature if y'all have different setups and find you're switching between them oft. Past using the QuickStart feature you lot skip all scans and only select the divers profiles while starting X-Plane directly.
To be honest, at that place are and then many features of xOrganizer that I like, that I recall information technology would exist a tremendous nugget to a considerable number of X-Airplane users and as such, cannot recommend it enough.
